StarTraX - Re-live your trip in Google Earth

Download StarTraX

A few words about loading and installing StarTraX.

When you click on the download link below, your browser will download the Microsoft Windows installer file "StarTraXInstaller{v.s.s}.msi" which contains the StarTraX program. You will be prompted to open or save the file. When you open it, it will be opened by the Window Installer program which will then allow you to install StarTraX on your computer.

StarTraX is built on Microsoft's .NET framework and requires the .NET 4.0 framework to be installed on your computer. If it is not currently installed, then the installer will walk you through the process of installing .NET 4.0 from the Microsoft web site. (If that's all a bit geeky, sorry - the message is: "Don't be worried if you find you're installing Microsoft .NET - it's OK.") This may take a minute or two, please be patient, it'll all be worth it in the end!

Once it's installed, you'll find a StarTraX directory in your "Program files" directory - or wherever else you choose to install it. Also there, you'll find some of my sample GPS track files (.gpx and .plt) in a directory called StarTraX\StarTraXData. These are for you to play with until you have some of your own plot files.

The program you download is the, un-registered version. It has most, but not all of the functionality of the registered version. Some of the advances features like fast forward, smoke trails, cockpit instruments, scenery and others are missing.

A further limitation is that the animation only runs for 4 minutes before exiting.

You can get a free registration key by completing the form on the Registration page.

StarTraX is now compatible with Windows 7.

Attention existing users!

We are nearly ready to release a radically new version of StarTraX. It contains all the old features, plus:

  • Runs on your Apple Mac as well as Windows PC*
  • Always runs the latest version
  • Faster and simpler setup
  • Faster track processing

* Still not Linux, iPad or smart phones but it will, once Google Earth does some "heavy lifting".

We're looking for volunteer test drivers to put it through its paces and report any teething problems we've missed.

If you're interested, please submit a new registration request and put "test drive" in the "How did you discover StarTraX" field. We'll email you directly with access details.
